about risperidone -second-generation antipsychotic benzisoxazole derivative antimanic atypical antipsychotic. -mechanism of action of risperidone -risperidone exerts its antipsychotic activity by blocking dopamine and serotonin (5ht2) receptors. the drug has antagonistic action on alpha adrenergic and histaminergic receptors. these produce an increase in neurotransmitters concentration and thereby antipsychotic action. -indications for risperidone -psychoses -interactions for risperidone -levodopa : efficacy of levodopa and dopamine agonists reduced. -carbamazepine : chronic administration of carbamazepine may decrease it`s efficacy. -clozapine : chronic administration of clozapine may enhance it`s efficacy.
